so my topic for tonight is:
Beat down! oh yes... the ever lovable beat down deck..
Beat downs are very basic that is why a lot of duelists prefer using them. it lets you use almost all the cards that you like best because it lets you build your deck around that set of cards
Let us give an example: by picking a monster card:
http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Gene-Warped_WarwolfGene-Warped Warwolf
EARTH
level 4
Beast-warrior/Normal
2000ATK
100 DEFso this is a very basic but decent card (its a Vanilla monster a.k.a. normal...(walay pulos..))
However if we build a deck that supports this cards strengths we can still pull the advantage away from our opponents!
so what strengths are we talking about?
Primarily we look at its stats:
it is an Earth monster, this is means it gets a lot of decent support such as :
Gaia Power (adds 500 ATK)
Spirit Earth Arts - Kurogane (easy method of recursion/ secondary call of the haunted and helps escape targeting effects..)
Secondly:
Is that it is a LEVEL 4 monster: no tributes necessary and it boasts a very decent ATK: 2000!
with stats like these it will probably difficult for your opponent will have a difficulty smashing through it very early on in the game.its DEF may be lacking but why would you put it in DEF anyways, right?
Third:
Its a Beast-warrior so if you add in other monsters such as
Enraged Battle Ox you can deal major hurt to your opponents! AND if you focus on a pure beast-warrior deck you can utilize cards such as:
Unity of Family (Solidarity)Also it lets you use it together with other powerhouse Beast-Warrior monsters such as
Beast King Barbaros!
Fourth and my last review:
Its a Normal/vanilla monster! a lot of people frown when others use Normal monsters.. however they forget that in the sets:
Strike of Neos until
Light of Destruction!
Cards such as Justibreak and give Normal monsters the edge as it works just like their personal Mirror force and you can have 3 copies!!
Skill Drain however is the BEST friend of Normal Monsters. being normal as they are they do not lose any effects making this very problematic for your opponent's deck which may rely on their opponent's effects.. oh and did I just tell you that with
Skill Drain:
Beast King Barbaros will not have its Attack reduced to 1900... meaning its a free normal summonable 3000 beatstick!
so that is how you make a beat down deck, you search for a focal point for your deck and you build around it making it as flexible as you can to accommodate many of your choices...
here is how the deck might look like:
Monsters: 19
3 Gene-Warped Warwolf
3 Beast-king Barbaros
3 Enraged Battle Ox
3 Gladiator Beast Andal
1 Manticore of Darkness
2 Pitch-Black Warwolf
